Arrived & First Impressions

Okay so I finally made it half way around the world...actually me & 500 of my closest friends survived a somewhat bumpy flight from Paris to Johannesburg. The airport was crazy but I managed to make it to my connecting flight into Port Elizabeth. I felt so gross after traveling for over 12 hours and all I wanted to do was take a shower and crash when I got home.

On Tuesday my one roommate Sam & I wandered around to get familiar with where were living. We are not far from a wal-mart type store so we can just walk over when we need groceries or anything else. It is so gorgeous here & everyone is so tan so that is our goal until school starts!

The apartment was not what I was expecting (pictures soon on fb i promise) & since I'm a spoiled American I was not impressed. Its pretty basic and not too horrible minus the fact that we don't have Air conditioning :( & we might have to wash our clothes in a sink...

Luckily all of us roommates get along so that is a good sign and we are already planning weekend trips! We did learn a rumor today that our school day ends around 2 which would give us plenty of time to practice surfing after school!

Also when Sam & I were exploring the town yesterday we realized that no one wears shorts here...so weird. Apparently we looked like two american whores in our shorts because it reminded me of Mexico when you get whistled at & the girls kept looking at us like we were crazy. All i brought besides school clothes are tempos and sorority shirts & I cannot imagine not wearing shorts with this weather! One final thing, we currently suck at converting money from rand to dollars in our heads, everything here is in kilometers not pounds and Celsius not Fahrenheit...definitely something were going to have to get used to....
